Yeast
Infection Test
Taking a yeast infection test would be a great way to know if you
indeed have yeast infection or not. There are a number of these tests available.
Vaginal pH Test Kit. This kit for vaginal yeast infection test includes a strip of paper for
pH test and a color chart to find the vaginal pH results. This is done by holding the paper for pH test against
the wall of the vagina for a few seconds. After the procedure, compare the color that appeared in the pH test
paper from the color charts. Through the color chart, a person can determine the level of pH in the vaginal
area. The common sign of infection is an abnormal vaginal pH level. If you have yeast infection, the results
usually is high in acidic, usually in the 3.6 - 4.4 range. Most test strips for yeast infection are accurate and
will match a doctor's in-house diagnosis about 92% of the time, depending on the brand and type of test.
Spit Test. Another quick and simple test you can undertake at home to determine the
severity of the yeast infection which is sometimes referred to as the Yeast Infection Spit Test. This involves
spitting some of your saliva into a glass of mineral water or reverse osmosis water. After leaving it and
waiting for approximately one hour take a look at the pattern that the saliva has made by looking into the water
through the clear glass. It will either be resting on the surface with 'stringy' bits pointing downwards,
suspended mid glass or would have sunk to the bottom of the glass. Each 'result' suggests a stage of severity.
Lab Test. The only definitive way to diagnose a vaginal yeast infection is to
complete a full gynecologic exam and laboratory test. This exam includes using a specialized instrument
(speculum) to hold open the vagina. The yeast infection exam can be uncomfortable because of pressure against
the tissues. The doctor takes a swab of the discharge and may obtain cultures to rule out other diseases. To
perform the yeast infection test, a swab of yeast is mixed with a drop of potassium hydroxide and is placed on
a slide. If yeast is present, a specific branching pattern is seen through the microscope
